Singer Jesse Powell Has Died

Jesse Powell, a singer-songwriter and R&B icon died at 51 at his home in Los Angeles.

Powell, from Gary, Indiana, rose to prominence with the ballad “You,” which appeared on his self-titled debut album in 1996.

When he released “You” as a single in 1999, it debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number ten. It also peaked at number two on the Billboard R&B chart.

Trina and Tamara Powell, R&B singers, were his older siblings.

Tamara Powell, a Grammy winner, confirmed her brother’s death in an emotional Instagram post in the early hours of September 14, 2022.

She penned: “We mourn the loss of our dear son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.

“He died quietly in his Los Angeles home. The family requests privacy at this time as we grieve his untimely death and celebrate his enduring legacy.

“Jesse adored music, and he was especially grateful to his followers who had supported him throughout his career. We want you to know how much you meant to him.”

“The Powell Family” signed off on the message.

The reason for death has yet to be revealed.

Tamara Powell also paid tribute to her brother in a separate Instagram post, which included a video of herself singing “You.”

She captioned the video, “That voice!

“You were the best big brother ever, aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there.” I was crazy about you. I’m glad we were so close; we were a complete disaster all the time. We treasured you “Jet,” and our family will never be the same without you.”

During his career, Jesse Powell released four studio albums. His second album, ‘Bout It,’ was declared gold, and it was followed by JP in 2001 and Jesse in 2003.

He kept a quiet profile after the publication of his fourth album, but that did not prevent fans all over the world from falling in love with his music.

Fans have expressed respect for the late musician on social media.
